Some athletes have a fear of speaking to coaches ... even adults in general. Here are some helpful tips to help you build confidence when you speak with coaches. You will impress coaches and stand apart from the rest.
1. Be professional and respectful: When communicating with coaches, it's important to be professional and respectful at all times. Address them formally and use appropriate language, and be courteous and polite in all your interactions.
2. Do your research: Before reaching out to coaches, make sure you do your research on the school and the sports program. This will show the coach that you are serious about their program and have taken the time to learn about it.
3. Be clear and concise: When communicating with coaches, be clear and concise in your messaging. Make sure you state your goals and intentions clearly and concisely, and avoid using unnecessary jargon or overly complicated language.
4. Follow up promptly: If a coach responds to your communication, make sure you follow up promptly. This will show them that you are interested and engaged in the process, and that you respect their time.
5. Be honest and authentic: Finally, it's important to be honest and authentic when communicating with coaches. Don't oversell yourself or make false claims about your abilities. Instead, be honest about your strengths and weaknesses, and demonstrate your passion and commitment to your sport.
Remember, or even write these things down and you can refer back to this as you're talking to a coach. Practice with a parent or your coach if you need to.
Good Luck
